An estimated 15 million Canadians spend one half of their waking hours at work and most of these hours are spent sitting. Most employees are feeling the pressure and reporting increases in stress related illness - physical activity has been identified as an effective way to reduce stress. Workplaces that support physical activity can benefit through:
· Improved productivity and morale;
· Improved job satisfaction and team spirit;
· Reduced absenteeism and turnover;
· Reduced stress and back injuries;
· Reduced workplace injuries and worker’s compensation costs; and
· Reduced claims against group benefit plans.
